Metric, Imperial and US customary systems

Metric units scale consistently by powers of ten. Imperial and US customary units share some names but not always the same size: a US gallon and an Imperial gallon are different, so this site labels each one explicitly.

Conversion accuracy

Calculations use numbers and authoritative definitions such as 1 inch = 2.54 centimetres and 1 pound = 0.45359237 kilograms. Formatting happens after calculation to remove floating-point noise while preserving useful precision. Average months, Mach and ingredient densities are labelled as approximations.

Frequently asked questions

Are US and Imperial units treated as equivalent?

No. US and Imperial gallons, pints and fluid ounces use separate labels and factors.

What is the difference between kB and KiB?

A decimal kilobyte (kB) is 1,000 bytes. A binary kibibyte (KiB) is 1,024 bytes.

How accurate are the results?

The engine uses exact defined constants where available and rounds only the displayed result. Approximate assumptions such as Mach, average months and ingredient density are clearly labelled.

Are conversion values uploaded?

No. Interactive conversions run locally in your browser.
