Clear the layered tile board

Match identical free tiles until all 40 pairs are removed.

Time00:00Matches0/40Moves0

Select two matching free tiles. A free tile has no tile above it and at least one open side.

How to use this game

  1. Choose a tile shown at full brightness; blocked tiles cannot be removed yet.
  2. Choose a second free tile with the identical face to remove the pair.
  3. Continue until all 40 pairs are cleared. Use Hint, Undo, or Shuffle remaining if needed.
  4. Start a new solvable game at any time; the board and score remain only in this tab.

How the game works

A tile is free when nothing covers it and at least one horizontal side is open. Deals are assigned against a verified legal removal sequence so every fresh board has a complete solution path.

Step-by-step play

  1. The browser checks which active tiles have no covering tile and at least one open horizontal side.
  2. Selecting two identical free tiles removes them and exposes any tiles beneath or between them.
  3. The timer begins with the first selection, while the move counter records each attempted pair.
  4. The round ends when no tiles remain. A shuffle reassigns only the remaining faces against a new valid removal path.

Worked example

Select a free East Wind tile and its matching free East Wind tile. The pair disappears and may expose tiles beneath it.

Risk guidance

A compact layered layout

The board contains 80 tiles arranged across three layers. It uses four copies of each of 20 familiar dot, bamboo, character, wind, and dragon designs for a focused game that remains readable on laptops, tablets, and phones.

Deals that are solvable by construction

Before tile faces are assigned, the local game engine computes a complete sequence of legal free-position pairs. Matching faces are then assigned to those pairs. Other valid choices may exist, but the generated deal always begins with at least one complete solution path.

Hints without automatic moves

Hint highlights one currently available matching pair but does not remove it. This keeps the decision with the player while making the game approachable for people learning which layered tiles are free.

Undo and shuffle controls

Undo restores the most recently removed pair. Shuffle remaining preserves the tile faces still in play and reassigns them against a new legal removal sequence, helping recover from a position with no visible match.

Private, local play

The deal, timer, moves, hints, and tile selections stay in browser memory. There is no login, online opponent, public score, payment, gameplay upload, or server-side game state.

Frequently asked questions

What makes a Mahjong tile free?

No active tile may cover it, and either its left or right side must be open. Free tiles are shown at full brightness; blocked tiles are dimmed.

Is every new board solvable?

Yes. Matching faces are assigned only after the browser computes a complete legal removal sequence for the layout. Choosing a different valid match can still create a difficult position, so Undo and Shuffle remaining are available.

Does the game save or upload my score?

No. The timer, move count, deal, and selections exist only in the current browser tab and are not submitted to a server.

Does this tool send my inputs anywhere?

No. The interactive calculation runs in your browser and this site does not submit tool inputs to a backend.

How should I use the result?

Check that the entered units and values match your situation, especially around dates, breaks, and rounding.
